Doel van CEYAS
Several developments in the field of automated driving, as demonstrated by V-tron within the project 5G Blueprint, offer new and promising opportunities for automating logistics movements on (closed) industrial sites.
The use of remotely controlled (tele-operated) vehicles at construction sites offers significant potential to improve the efficiency, flexibility and safety of logistics operations. Together with electrification, this contributes to the sustainable well-being and prosperity of society.
The growth of the economy, with the associated strong growth in the need for logistics, is driving automation in various sectors such as distribution centers, ports, airports and other distribution centers. The shortage of drivers and other personnel is an additional challenge in logistics.
CEYAS, Cost Efficient Yard Automation Solution, provides an effective solution to these challenges while reducing the risk of damage or accidents during operations.
Aanpak project
Although much technology is already available to automate logistics in closed areas, there are still a number of technical challenges.
Together with Verhagen BV and TNO, in CEYAS V-tron intends to focus on a component- and system-level solution to achieve an optimal composition of the overall system to ensure the effectiveness and safety of automated solutions in this type of environment.
One of the technological challenges of automation in closed areas is accurate, robust, low-latency and reliable localization. This standard solution also needs to be scalable and modular.
Within CEYAS, partners are exploring the possibilities of offering this solution via tele-operation. By having the vehicle controlled by a remote driver, the need for a cabin on the vehicle is eliminated and the choice was made to add the necessary V-tron sensorics to an existing electric solution of the V-move from Verhagen BV.
This creates an emission-free trailer-mover that can operate almost entirely “independently” on the enclosed property. If all trailers are shunted – docking and moving – via the tele-V-move, pedestrians are no longer present on the site and the risk of accidents is eliminated.

Uitdagingen
The following challenges remain to be addressed:
- Automated connection and disconnection of connections – hydraulic, electrical, sensor – of trailers. Now still manual work;
- legal authorization of the tele-V-move for business parks that are not fully enclosed;
- production facilities to build and tele-operate enough V-move’s;
- training of teleoperators;
